Beautiful Beginnings
Lesa: We met at a nightclub on Georgia Ave in DC. I was angry at the guy I was dating and decided to wash away all my sadness.
Joe: I was minding my business, out with a buddy that night. He was a detective and I’m a Marine. We were enjoying our cocktails, and a young lady came over. She was talking to my buddy but looking at me.
Lesa: I knew Dave, his friend, but when I saw Joe – the moment I saw him, that he was going to be the man I would marry.
Joe: When we went out, we were always suited down because that’s just what we did. And one thing led to another. She left and came back. We started dancing and before you know it, it was 4am and we decided to go to breakfast.
Lesa: I started asking him questions like are you married? He said he was separated – so that was strike one. Then I asked him if he had children, and he said yes – that was strike two. I asked him if he took care of his children, and he said yes. So that wiped away my concern. We just meshed and connected so nicely – I had never experienced that. But I really did know the moment I met him that I was going to marry him. That was more than 36 years ago.
